Off For a Few Days
Base10 is going to take a break from blogging for a few days to prepare for an Micro exam. Here are some items to keep you busy while I'm gone:
- Base10's thoughts and prayers go out to the two soldiers, Pfc. Kristian Menchaca and Pfc. Thomas L. Tucker, who were purportedly captured in Iraq by a terrorist group.
- Ralph Peters has a very interesting article in the Armed Forces Journal where he discusses what the Middle East would look like if it had more naturally drawn borders. I don't necessarily agree with him, but it is certainly a case of "thinking out of the box." Well worth a read.
- Speaking of "out of the box," David Warren has an interesting idea that puts the cultural clash between Western values and Islamic fundamentalism in a new perspective. He thinks we're in a race to the bottom. Again, I don't think I agree, but it is refreshing to see people examine these issues from new perspectives.
- When you want to learn about nuclear disarmament, you should always ask a linguist first. Seriously, he mentions this:
[Iranians] know that the United States, along with its allies, has been tormenting Iranians for more than 50 years, ever since a US-UK military coup overthrew the parliamentary government and installed the Shah, who ruled with an iron hand until a popular uprising expelled him in 1979.
But he seems to have forgotten about the hostages. - Finally, this is disturbing.
