That Most Dangerous Ride

Who would have thought the most dangerous thing I was going to do today was ride the subway? But it's true. Two al Qaida operatives arrested in Iraq apparently gave detailed information on a planned London-style bomb attack on the New York City subway. This information was known two days before, but was publically disseminated only last night.

So Base10 writes this as he rides the "R" train into Manhattan. Will anything come of this? Who knows? The news has certainly disrupted the intended operation--if there was one at all. It is also impossible to assess how reliable the information is.

What to do? Well, the city immediately announced plans to step up subway security, but to be honest, it's mostly along the lines of, "We're going to do all the things we were doing before and hope for the best." If they catch these fuckers maybe the New York Times will actually call them "terrorists" and advocate shipping them off to Guantanamo Bay. (Please excuse the rough language above--nobody ever said this was a family blog). What's important for people to remember is that these kooks are not everywhere. They can only strike on a very small scale. Don't let fear take over.

Links later when I get to work.

UPDATE: There may be something going on in Penn Station. Here's a link to the original story.

  1. I was thinking about you when I heard the "news" about the subways in NY. I had gathered you took them to and from work and obviously work there. So I am glad that the "threat" doesn't seem "as bad" for lack of better words. I agree with your lack of family wording. I believe the media needs to stop making such fluff of the reality of things and report it as truth.
