This is an image from Flushing Meadow Park. It is a sculpture called "Rocket Thrower" and it was commissioned for the 1964 World's Fair. The sculpture was created by Donald De Lue and according to this website had mixed reviews. The NY Times called it a "most lamentable monster, making Walt Disney look like Leonardo Da Vinci.” I don't know if I'd go that far, but whether public art is an eyesore or a marvel is of course up to the beholder. The image was taken in EOS RAW format and the lower area of the statue was burned in to create more detail.
