Looks Like This is the End
Base10 actually watched a couple of innings of the Mets game on Sunday. He did see the touching standing ovation given to Mike Piazza at the end of the game. The event reflects the sentiment Base10 holds. Many fans were fond of trash talking Mike this year, but he's like our Brett Favre. He's the man. He's Mike Piazza, future Hall of Famer. To the trash-talkers I say this. If you have a dog and it stands by you loyally for fifteen years and he gets your paper every morning and your slippers every night, you don't curse him out and say he sucks after all that time if he occasionally pees on the rug. He still gets your paper and slippers, it just takes him a little longer is all.
We love ya' Mike. Best wishes. Take a DH job somewhere. Take some of the strain off of those knees. You'll always be my favorite Met.
The Mets as a whole have actually had a winning season, the first since 2001. Philly isn't getting the wild card either.
In the AL, the Yanks and the Sox finished with the same record but the Yanks win the East because they had a better record against the Sox. This is a new rule that Base10 doesn't quite understand.
Anyway, as far as the Mets go, their season wasn't all bad. Good pitching, and a mostly good infield. What was lacking was obvious, lack of run support and a poor bullpen--especially at closer. Fix those two things and you have a great team.
As is often the case with the Mets, there's only one thing left to say. Wait until next year!
