Afghanistan and Democracy
The WSJ's Opinion Journal has a terrific story about good news in Afghanistan. For sure, Afghanistan has a long way to go. But this article highlights some of the tremendous strides being made. Base10's favorites:
- More than 2 million Afghan woman have registered to vote in October's elections. This in spite of continuing threats by Taliban remnants. This group represents 38% of the electorate.
- For the first time in their history, woman will represent Afghanistan at the Olympics in Athens. RoRobina Muqimyar will run in the 100 meters, and Friba Rezihi will compete in judo. Here's a link. Base10 will be rooting for them.
Read the article. It's very good.
