SpaceShipOne has made it to space!

There are some really cool photos on the Yahoo site as well. Base10 is sure he's not the only one, but he thinks this is the beginning of a new age. Private space flight! How about that! When Base10 was a kid he always wanted one of those Jetson aircars. Well maybe spaceflight will be available in his lifetime after all. There are a couple of points here:

• This was accomplished by the private sector. Not some huge inefficient government bureaucracy. This project shows what individual can accomplish within the context of a free market. While there is no doubt that Burt Rutan is a genius, others are clearly going to follow.
  
• Base10 really likes the fact that the pilot, Michael Melvill, is sixty-three years old. Base10 just had to get glasses because he is feeling his age. Who knows? Someday he might need those glasses to pilot his own rocketship!
  
• Base10 also finds it amazing that SpaceShipOne is being financed by Paul Allen. You know Paul Allen. He's the good billionaire. His evil twin became Bill Gates.
