Thoughts of Bill Bennett

While at Poweline read this entry about Bill Bennett. Base10 agrees and doesn't see what the controversy is. I listened to Bill Bennett's remarks and frankly, they were not offensive. Here's what he said in the context of a discussion about abortion and Freakonomics author Steven D. Levitt about the idea of abortions reducing crime:
But I do know that it's true that if you wanted to reduce crime, you could -- if that were your sole purpose, you could abort every black baby in this country, and your crime rate would go down. That would be an impossible, ridiculous, and morally reprehensible thing to do, but your crime rate would go down.

Even lefty Matt Yglesias agrees.

Juan Williams on Fox News is suggesting that Bill Bennett's remarks are equivalent to supporting euthanasia for the elderly to reduce Social Security spending. Juan, weren't you listening? He was condemning such ideas.
