Photo of the Day

Well, that's a little better than this. I took the 6x6 negative from Gantry Park, placed it against a white computer screen and took this photo with the digital SLR. It's sort of like a makeshift copy stand. (You could, of course, do this with a light box and a copy stand as well). Note the slight fisheye effect. This is due not to the lens, but to the curvature of the film when I made the copy--hey this is just until I get a film scanner! By the way, I have narrowed the choice of film scanner to the Epson 4990. It can handle medium format film sizes and can handle 4x5 inch negatives as well. I plan on going to this format one way or another in the near future.

About the photo: this was actually taken by Mrs. Base10 at Gantry Park using the Yashicamat. Gantry Park is a lovely little spot on the Long Island City side of the East River. There are beautiful views of the Manhattan skyline. If you'd like to learn more about Gantry Park, click here.
