Good Morning

Base10 is on his way to work right now. It is a lovely overcast morning here in NYC with rain likely tonight. It is, so far, a slow news day. The morning papers are mostly concerned with the Harriet Miers nomination. Even Peggy Noonan asks, "What was the President Thinking?" When George Will and Peggy Noonan question your judgment, it's time for a little self-inspection.

Aside from Miers, nothing. Sure, there's your obligatory shrill Iraq-is-a-quagmire piece in the NYT/Wapo, but when is there not?

In sports news, in the Battle of Hosiery, the Red Sox got beat by the White Sox 5-4 last night blowing a lead. This makes them 0-2 in the series as they head back to Fenway for a game on Friday. The Yanks again defeated the Angels bringing them up to 2-0 in the series as they head back to the Bronx. Houston also beat the hated Braves. (Base10 cannot believe he is rooting for a team that has Roger Clemens as a player. The postseason does make for strange bedfellows).

Hockey started with much fanfare last night as well. Base10 does not normally follow hockey--at least until after the Superbowl--but will try to keep track of the Rangers on general sports fan principle.

There are a couple of football items. It looks like first round draft pick Alex Smith will standing over center this Sunday for San Francisco. The guy has a lot of upside, but will likely struggle early. In other QB news, it is unclear whether Buffalo's wonderfully-named coach Mike Mularchy will start J.P. Losman or not. The Jets of course are set to start Vinny--cough--Testaverde. Just can't wait for Sunday's game, huh?
